The importance of proportioned LED grow lights

As a fourth-generation new light source, LED distinguishes itself from other electric light sources in many ways, which makes it the best choice when we are thinking of using energy-saving and environmentally friendly light source. Used in plant cultivation area, LED grow lights have a rich variety of wavelengths, fitting into the spectral range built up by the plant photosynthesis and photo morphogenesis. This can not only adjust the flowering and bearing fruit of plant, but also control the height and nutrient component of plant. The LED system also produces less heat and takes up less room than common grow lights. In addition, its exceptionally strong durability also reduces operating costs. All these characteristics make it quite suitable for plant cultivation in controllable environment.

Common LED grow lights consist of lights of different colors. Colored lights set in proportion determine the growth rate of plants. If we use LED grow lights in agriculture, we can even make strawberries and tomatoes become sweeter and more nutritious. Put seedlings under the exposure to grow lights, and we are actually simulating outdoor photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants, through chloroplast, turn carbon dioxide and water into organic matter of energy storage and release oxygen into the air using energy from sunlight. Sunlight is composed of lights of different colors; light of different colors can have different effects on plant growth.

According to the test, in the purple light, seedlings are the tallest, but have small leaves and their roots are shallow, looking like one suffering from malnutrition. In the pale yellow light, seedlings are not only small but leaves seem to show no signs of life. In the red light mixed with blue, holly grows the best. It is not only strong and also has a very well-developed root system. This kind of LED light has red bulbs and blue bulbs in the proportion 9:1.

The results show that a light source with the red light and blue light in the proportion 9:1 is most beneficial to plant growth. Under the exposure to this kind of light, strawberry and tomato bear plump fruit. That is because sugar and vitamin C increase significantly, and the plants are seldom found bearing hollow fruits. Under continuous exposure to LED light, for example, for 12-16 hours per day, strawberries and tomatoes will taste better than those growing up in ordinary greenhouse.
